My first week in the House of Commons has been an amazing experience: daunting, exciting, exhausting – in pretty much equal measure. All the new members are enthusiastically looking forward to helping constituents, being sworn-in, attending the Queen’s Speech, and making our maiden speeches. But we also know there will be difficult times on the economy, on social reform and restoring trust in politics.

It has been a busy week! Within 24 hours of the election result, several East Hants residents had brought me sensitive issues to deal with, and there was what seemed like a deluge of broader correspondence. While getting to grips with this has been my top priority, I have also felt hugely privileged to be able to observe some of the week’s historic developments from close-up.
