New film puts community planning in the spotlight

Mon 19th Jul 2010, 11:03

A Buriton traffic calming scheme has been chosen to be one of the stars of a new film to highlight the power of community planning.

A £45,000 road layout has helped combat speeding and anti-social driving in the village and a second phase of work is to be carried out in August.

The project was put together largely through the hard work of local residents and it is this community involvement which makes it the perfect subject of a new film, aimed at promoting community planning.

The video, commissioned by Complan, a network of community planning officers across Hampshire, focuses on the huge benefits communities can reap if working to a structured plan.

Linda Munday, EHDC Community PLanning co-ordinator, formed Complan, she said: “Community plans are a great way of showing what your community needs and a great way of collecting the evidence you need to do something about it.

“If you can prove your community wants something, through consultation and resident involvement, then you have a much stronger case when it comes to attracting grant funding for your project.

“Community planning really works and we hope this new film will demonstrate that.”

The film, shot by Create Media, of Four Marks, will observe good examples of community planning from across Hampshire and be shown to those looking draw up their own plans.

So far two thirds of East Hampshire towns and villages are involved in producing community plans.
